As our lone Junior for the 2009 season, “Shay” is getting a lot of attention from college coaches and recruiters. Her skill set is nearly complete, needing only some polish to be a D-1 signee. Shay’s tremendous foot-speed, balance, ball handling and shooting (long-range shooting) are apparent the moment she takes the floor. Add to that a strong work ethic, a supportive family and book-smarts, and someone is going to add a tremendous asset to their program in 2010.

Kelli a 5ft 5in guard will suit up this season for Akins High School. I had the privilege of working with her a few times at the Ambassadors workouts this past season. Kelli has great range on her shot and don’t mind taking it to the basket. She is rapidly developing her skills and knowledge of the game that she has great passion for. Look for Kelli to be a threat for the Eagles and quickly move into the Varsity ranks.

On Sunday the Ambassadors 2014 Elite played their second game in the Fall Basketball league that’s put on every year by the Cen-Tex Starzz. We got off to a slow start missing our first four shots and turning the ball over twice within our first seven possesions. The Wildcats played great defense to start the game, but the Ambassadors started to heat up and played some solid defense to close the first half. The second half belong to the Ambassadors who went on a 8-o run to push the game up to an 14 point lead. This makes the Ambassadors 2-0 in league play and will have a tough match-up next week against Dripping Springs High School.

If all coaches truly love a player who defends, then there wouldn’t be one out there who wouldn’t love Odyssey Sims. The 5-8 point guard from DFW T-Jack is setting new standards when it comes to on-ball pressure and it’s made her a more effective offensive threat. Creating transition opportunities off turnovers and rushed shots puts her in the position that she’s most effective — full speed. Her decision making and shot selection have matured as well and the left hander buried several 3-pointers with an impressive soft touch. Her energetic enthusiasm and leadership effort is contagious and effective with her teammates. Currently ranked No. 9 in the ESPN HoopGurlz Super Sixty, she made quite a case for climbing the ladder a rung or two.

Essence a 5ft 4in post player is rapidly developing her basketball skills. She continues to be strong post player and is one of the most athletic players I have ever coached. Essence has good ball handling skills and continues to work hard in developing her perimeter game. She is a monster on the boards and should turn out to be a solid basketball player.
Del Valle High School will enjoy having an all around athlete like Essence coming to campus next year.
