D-1 Prospect McNeil PG Christina Robinson

Posted by Coach Dean on November 28, 2009

5′ 8″ PG Christina Robinson class of 2011 has great skills. The junior point guard hit a quite 12 points against the Cardinals today, but showed outstanding skill level. Christina is a great all around player with the ability to get her teammates involved. She has excellent ball handling, passing, and shooting skills with great range from the perimeter.

Christina is quick off the dribble with the ability to create her own shot.  She moves very well without the ball & her defense was very solid today, but will need to pick up to be able and guard at the next level. The junior has great size for a PG with one of the best looking shots I have seen in a while. Look for Christina to be a major impact for the Mc Neil Mavericks as the season progresses.

Del Valle VS McNeil

Posted by Coach Dean on November 27, 2009

On Saturday Mc Neil will travel out into Cardinal land to take on Del Valle.  Del Valle has gotten off to a great start this season. I have had the privilege of watching them match up with the Anderson trojans, and Austin High. The Cardinals dominated both games and they can get out and run. They have great guard play which should really make this a good match up. Mc Neil will be led by Freshman Brianna Timourian who averages right at 10 per game for the Mavericks.

Please check back Sunday for a recap of the game.

LBJ Lady Jaguars VS Akins Lady Eagles

Posted by Coach Dean on November 25, 2009

I had a chance to catch up with the Lady Eagles before game time to get this group photo.

Tonight’s key match-up between the Lady Eagles of Akins High & the Jags from LBJ

1st quarter

LBJ jumped out to a 8-0  lead early into the first quarter running the break very well. The lady Jags did an excellent job with the outlet pass & pushing the ball up the floor fast and hard.  Akins turned the ball over 3 times On their first 5 possessions as they seem to struggle with their offense early on.

Senior Wing player Alex Jones for LBJ showed great poise & leadership early in the Game to help keep her team out in front.  Down 14 points Akins pg Vanessa Winston scores 2 easy baskets to get the eagles out & running. Vanessa a junior pg at Akins has great court vision along with excellent ball handling skills. Vanessa has great range on her shot and don’t mind shooting it from beyond the arc. She contributed 12 points & 6 assist. Closing out the 1st quarter Akins picked up the defense to cut the Jags lead to six at the end of the first. 20-14

2nd Quarter

LBJ takes off again early in the second going on a 6-0 run behind the leadership of  Senior Alex Jones.

The senior wing player dropped 25 points and played great man defense. Alex has excellent ball handling, passing, and shooting skills. Last night you could really see the athleticism and quickness from Alex as she went up & down the floor.  Akins  down 9 continued to be aggressive on both ends of the floor. With 3:16 left in the third LBJ has increased their lead to 15. Sophomore post player Alexis  Hyder going strong  to the basket got and an 1 to increase the Akins lead to 19. The physical post player did not have an excellent offensive game but she did all the little things to help her team to a victory.  Closing the second half  LBJ continued to show dominance on the boards & with their defensive efforts. Halftime 44-23

LBJ High School                                                                                                             Akins High School

3rd quarter

Down 21 to start the quarter Akins has a huge hill to climb to get back into the game. Akins continued to have problems taking care of the ball. Post player Danielle Lofton hit a couple of key baskets but it was not enough to slow down the jags. Danielle a junior post player plays very aggressively around the basket. I have watched her play over the last few years and she is continuously developing her games. Danielle added 12 points tonight in the lost to LBJ. Pg #21

 T. Jones did an excellent job taking care of the ball for the Jags. The junior point guard has great patience and excellent ball handling & passing skills. End Of third 39-59.

4th Quarter

Down twenty going into the fourth Akins continued to be aggressive and play tough defense cutting the lead to 15. But the Jags continued to stay focused on their mission.

Top Ten Teams To Watch

Posted by Coach Dean on November 23, 2009

1. Pflugerville.A Class 5A state semifinalist last season, Pflugerville will count on inside players Christie Mooney, Adesuwa Ebomwonyi and DyMesheon Hyder until All-Centex first-teamer Nneka Enemkpali recovers from a knee injury.

 2. Georgetown. After finishing second in 16-5A last season, the Eagles will be led by forward Crystal Atwood, a four-year starter who averaged 18.9 points last season.

 3. Cedar Park. The Timberwolves should push Georgetown for the district title behind reigning 16-5A MVP Maddie Wheeler, a sharpshooting guard.

4. Hays. Donny McDonald’s team reached the state semifinals last season despite having only two seniors. This season, the Rebels will lean on guards Angeleigh Davis and Ashley Rankine.

5. LBJ. Once again, the Jaguars appear poised to dominate District 26-4A, after winning the league title the previous three years. Powerful post player Alexis Hyder will pace the Jags.

6. Del Valle. A regional finalist in 2009, the Cardinals must replace four starters, including Baylor signee Shanay Washington. Joslin Douglas returns after averaging nearly four steals a game last season.

7. Connally. A playoff qualifier last season, the Cougars welcome a new coach, Laura Zouzalik, who takes over for Angie Jo Hermesmeyer. Lacking in size, Connally will field a quick team.

8. Round Rock. The Dragons are looking for another playoff berth after making the postseason in 2008-09. Second-year coach Anthony Robinson will lean on junior Jasmine Sborov, who averaged more than seven rebounds a game last season.

9. Marble Falls. The Mustangs reached the Class 4A regional quarterfinals last season behind third-team All-Centex guard Katy Cooke, who has graduated. Center Lindsey Ansley will lead a young team that has only four players with varsity experience.

10. Westlake. Chaparrals finished as District 25-5A runner-up to Pflugerville in 2008-09. Courtney Duever returns after leading the Chaps in scoring and rebounding last season, and Cherrell Mays — daughter of ex-Longhorn Travis Mays — will play point guard.

Del Valle 8th Grade Drops Season Opener

Posted by Coach Dean on November 21, 2009

On Thursday night Del Valle dropped their season opener to  Taylor MS.  Taylor who has a nice front court moved the ball very well up the court against the Cardinals full court pressure. It was a battle from the tip with Taylor really using their guard play wisely. Del Valle continued to work hard every single play until the buzzer sounded. Down nine points going into the fourth quarter Del Valle gain some momentum and came within 6 but they play of the Taylor guards keep the ducks running up & down the floor.

Del Valle MS 31

Taylor MS 41

5-1 point guard Mileena Vega did a great job at leading the way for the Cardinals. Mileena added 16 points 7 rebounds 3 assist and 2 steals. She has a passion to win and works hard on both ends of the floor. Mileena continues to develop as a player and will do good things for the Cardinals this up coming season.

5-6 forward Essence Sauls did damage on the boards. She grabbed 15 rebounds and added 9 points for the team. Essence has great athletic ability combined with a desire to win. Essence has good ball handling skills and works very well around the basket. Essence plays very aggressive defense with the ability to guard at all five positions. Look for essence to be a huge impact for the Cardinals this season.

Del Valle Point Guard To Much For Taylor MS

Posted by Coach Dean on November 19, 2009

Del Valle MS (7th grade) tipped off the season tonight on the road against Taylor Middle School. 5-4 point guard #22 Japreece Dean was a little too much for the Ducks defense. Japreece dropped in 29 points grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 7 assist. The 7th grader out of Del Valle has excellent ball handling, passing, and shooting skills.  She can also take you off the bounce and has outstanding court vision. The D-1 prospect will be a huge impact player for the cardinals as they look to go undefeated this season.

Good Job Japreece & continue to work hard.

Austin Royals Christian Athletics

Posted by Coach Dean on November 18, 2009

Austin Royals 61

Central Tx Christian school 30

2014 PG Megan Glaser #5 & 2014 combo guard Tiffany Fowler #4 combined for 41 points, 25 assist, and 14 rebounds in their matchup with Central Tx Christian School. Megan & Tiffany decided to play at the JV level for this season to take on more competitive players. It looks like they may have to compete at the varsity level for that. Megan a nice prospect in the class of 2014 dished out 14 assist  and grabbed 15 rebounds to help her team to victory. She is continuing to develop in all areas of the game and will play a major role for the Austin Royals this season. Tiffany Fowler dropped 33 points dished out 10 assist and grabbed 4 rebounds. The combo guard will be a nice D-1 prospect in the class of 2014. Tiffany works very hard at her game and continues to make major strides in being the best she can be.

The Royals are an organization of  home school families in the greater area of Austin, Texas, that offers competitive sports to our elementary through high school students.  Our primary purpose, however, is to help them become obedient followers of Jesus Christ who love God above all and will likewise encourage others to follow Christ.

Del Valle 49

Anderson 36

Texas Basketball Inc. was in the house on Tuesday night  for the season tip off  between the Del Valle Cardinals  & the Anderson Trojans.  Del Valle with a nice group of returning players will be very solid this up coming season.  The cardinals started out a little slow the first quarter turning the ball over  twice within their first four possessions. Anderson came out  pressing  early on to try and slow down the cardinals, but the Lady Cardinals showed good  patience against the press and attacked when they could.  6-0  post player Summer Postell class of 2011 works very well around the basket with the ability to get up & down the floor. 5-3 point guard Joslinn Douglas class of 2010 was a huge match up problem for the Trojans. The senior point guard is quick off the dribble & has great range on her shot.   Half way into the second quarter Del Valle picked things up defensively to take a three-point lead at the half  24-21.

Starting the second half the cardinals continued to be aggressive  attacking the basket, and taking good open shots.  Del Valle played excellent team defense in the third quarter with the guards playing good on ball  defense   forcing Anderson to four turnovers while taking an eleven point lead into the fourth. 5-6 combo guard Jametria Green class of 2011 had a great game. The  junior guard attacks the basket very well with the ability to shoot the mid range shot. Del Valle had great play from their guards who consistently attack the basket and got their teammates a lot of easy lay ups.

Great job  Coach Angel  to you & the Coaching Staff at Del Valle High School.
