Hays Lady Rebels Win 2nd Place In G.M. Blackman Tourney

Posted by Coach Dean on December 31, 2009

The Lady Rebels went up against the Del Valle Cardinals for the championship game. Hays who beat the lady cardinals last year in the playoffs knew this would be a tough match up. This game got off to a great start and remained that way until the end. Neither team could ever get out by more than 5 points for most of the game. 2010 G 5’8 Angeleigh Davis has a nice smooth game. The senior G can take you off the bounce or pull up with the mid range shot. 2010 G 5’6 Chrissy Arias is a threat from the perimeter. Chrissy knocked down some huge shots during this game to help keep pace with the cardinals.

5’6 Guard Chrissy Arias

Look for Hays to be deep into the playoffs and be a tough team to be in district play.

Del Valle     44

Lady Jaguars Capture 3rd Place in G.M. Blackman Tourney

Posted by Coach Dean on December 31, 2009

LBJ one of the most athletics teams in Central Texas defeated the Lady Hippos for third place in the Bastrop Blackman tourney. The jags played excellent basketball throughout the tourney but came up a little short in a thrilling semi final game against the Hays Rebels. 2011 F 5’11 Morgan Simmons did a bang up job throughout the tourney. The junior f has a nice mid range shot and works very hard around the basket. Morgan has great athleticism and moves very well without the ball. 2012 P 5’10 Alexis Hyder has nice size and dominates the post. The true sophmore plays good defense and has the ability to put the ball on the floor. I have watched her play ball since a 6th grader and she really has a great passion for the game. 2011 G 5’4 Tashanique Jones handles the rock for the Jags. Tashanique is continuing to develop her self into a true point guard. The junior guard has good ball handling, passing, and shooting skills with the ability to attack the basket.

Hendrickson Lady Hawks Win 5th Place In Bastrop Tourney

Posted by Coach Dean on December 30, 2009

The Lady Hawks defeated the Lady Tigers of  Smithville to capture 5th place in the G.M. Blackman tourney held in Bastrop. Hendrickson has a great group of athletes that play at a high level. 2010 G 5’8 Jordyn Johnson has great range from the perimeter with the ability to attack the basket. 2011 G 5’6 Nadia Williams is very active around the basket and plays good aggressive defense. The Lady Hawks did an excellent job in the tourney going 3-1 with that one loss coming to a very athletic and talented LBJ team. 2012 G 5’8 Jazmin Griffin has a great game. The true sophomore can take you off the bounce or pull up with the mid range shot. Jazmin has great ball handling, shooting, and passing skills with a great feel for the game. 2011 P 5’10 Kathryn Tolbert can shoot the ball very well. Kathryn has great ball handling skills with the ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter.

Poth Lady Pirettes

Posted by Coach Dean on December 30, 2009

I had a chance to catch up with the Lady Pirettes this afternoon after their game with LBJ. The Lady Pirettes dropped their first game of the tournament but really look good as they competed against some of the top 4a-5a schools in Central Texas. I got a picture of 2011 C 6’2 Tara Dunn as she took a break on the bench. The junior center has a very long frame and gets up the court pretty well. She works very hard around the basket and plays good defense.

Look for Poth to have a very successful season.

Hays Defeats LBJ In Semi Final

Posted by Coach Dean on December 30, 2009

This had to be the best game of the tournament thus far. Coming off a huge win over Hendrickson, LBJ seemed to be the favorite in this game. 2010 G 5’8 Angeleigh Davis did an excellent job leading her team to victory. The senior guard has great ball handling. passing, and shooting skills with a nice perimeter game. 2011 PF 5’11 Morgan Simmons did a bang up job against the rebels. the 5’11 junior displayed a nice mid range shot and continued to be very aggressive at attacking the basket.

5’11 PF Morgan Simmons                                                                                              5’8 G Angeleigh Davis

Starting the third quarter with a one point lead Hays knew this would go down to the wire. Both teams went back 7 fourth scoring with no one taking total control of the game. 2012 F 5’10 Alexis Hyder sat out most of third due to foul trouble. The true sophomore F works very well around the basket and plays aggressively on the defensive side of the floor. 2010 F 5’9 Ashley Magallanez has nice size and works well around the basket. The senior F continued to be aggressive at attacking the basket and made some key trips to the free throw line throughout the game. Going into the fourth quarter Hays was leading by two but knew the jags would not go away. This came down to a free throw contest the last four minutes with Hays knocking them down and the jags coming up a little short at the charity stripe.

LBJ will play Hutto in the Third place Game.

Hays will play Del Valle for the championship.

Great job to both schools and good luck with the rest of your season.

G.M. Blackman Tournament Varsity Girls

Posted by Coach Dean on December 29, 2009

Monday kicked off the first day of the annual GM Blackman Tournament in Bastrop, Texas.
The tournament featuring 16 teams from Central Texas along with a few State ranked teams proved to be one of the best tournaments to be a part of. The gym was full of intriguing prospects in the Cen-Tex area. 2010 F 5’9 Tamlasha Moore with the Bastrop Bears did a bang up job on the Hutto Hippos. Scoring 30 points and grabbing 10 rebounds Tamlasha proved to be on the top prospects in the area. 2011 5’7 G Hillari Raemsch did an excellent job of pushing the ball up the floor and getting her team easy baskets in transition. The Junior G has good ball handling, passing, and shooting skills with a desire to win.

CC Moody Lady Trojans vs. McAllen Lady Bulldogs

Posted by Coach Dean on December 23, 2009

This was an exhilarating double header that showcased both Coach Teresa Casso’s and Coach Roy Swift’s Bulldogs versus some very talented athletes from the Corpus Christi area. The first half had the Lady Bulldogs evenly matched against the Lady Trojans. During the second quarter, McAllen was only down by one point, 11-12, and was fighting hard. Corpus Christi began to press relentlessly and caused McHi to commit several turnovers. The first half ended with a score of 19-14 in favor of Moody. After the half, it was all Moody. The Lady Trojans defense allowed the Lady Bulldogs to score only an additional 15 points the entire second half.

Top standouts for the Lady Trojans were (left to right) F Karisa Norfleet (#20), F Kiana Orise (#14), and PG Alyssa Salinas (#1). These three girls stood out because of their athleticism and leadership. I would have never guessed that the Lady Trojans were being led by a freshman. Point guard Alyssa Salinas displayed leadership characteristics that usually radiate from an upperclassman. I was very impressed with this young lady and the depth she brought to the court. After the half, all you could hear was the net swooshing as she dropped consecutive 3-pointers plus two free throws to give her team the first 8 points of the second half. Not only is she a shooter, but she’s a great passer and can handle the ball well. I can’t wait to see how this season will unfold for Salinas. Look to see this name again in the coming years as possibly one of the top point guards in the Corpus Christi area as well as the rest of South Texas. Salinas leads the Lady Trojans in assists, averaging 7.8 per game. The Dynamic Duo of juniors, Karisa Norfleet and Kiana Orise were sensational. If it wasn’t Norfleet slashing to the basket, then it was Orise getting the rebound and putting it right back up. Orise hussled all night on the boards as well. She was successful at both offensive and defensive rebounds, making the most of second-chance points. With a power drive down the baseline in the 3rd qtr, Orise extended the Lady Trojan lead 29-22. She leads her team in rebounds and steals. Her teammate, Norfleet, had great speed which allowed her to move quickly to the basket on several transition plays. During the second half, she had a pair of buckets that helped give her team a double digit lead. Norfleet continued to make hussle plays all night. Norfleet leads her team in blocks. The Lady Trojans never looked back after the half and sailed through the 3rd and 4th qtr. with ease. Final score 46-29.

Congratulations to Coach Myra Nerios and the entire Lady Trojans basketball team on a great win! Good Luck during your season.

Murchison Goes Undefeated to Win Championship

Posted by Coach Dean on December 20, 2009

On Wednesday Murchison went up against O Henry for the Zone Championship. Murchison who is led by 5-4 wing player Kennedy Harris did an excellent job by closing O Henry out early in the game.  With 9 wins and no losses Murchison can now say they are true champions.

Murchison  39

O Henry        14

Kennedy Harris a 5-4 wing player for Murchison has been a great impact player and leader for her team. Averaging 18 points 10 rebounds and 3 steals per game the true 7th grader showed she has talent. Harris a nice D-1 prospect  has developed a great perimeter game which makes her more of a threat to opposing teams. Kennedy plays excellent defense and will burn you around the basket. She has great intensity with a high desire to win.

Del Valle PG Drops 37 on Elgin MS

Posted by Coach Dean on December 16, 2009

The match up on Monday night between Del Valle & Elgin was the best game I have seen at the Middle School level in a long time. Elgin came to Cardinal land with a high level of intensity & ready to play. The game got off to a great start with both teams going bucket for bucket. 5-0 Pg Kelsey Saenz    Class of 2015 handles the rock for Elgin and did a great job getting her team out in transition. The true 7th grader has nice ball handling, passing, and shooting skills.

Del Valle struggled defensively the entire game, as Elgin made a living on easy layups in transition. Del Valle PG Japreece Dean put on a clinic Monday night against Elgin. The D-1 prospect dropped 37 points grabbed 9 rebounds, and took control anytime she wanted throughout the game. The 7th grader displayed an arsenal of  moves as she picked the Elgin defense apart the entire night. 6-1 Post player Haley Herzog for  Elgin was very aggressive around the basket. Del Valle had no answer for the 6 footer as she scored basket after basket throughout the game.

Del Valle   47

Elgin          41

Elgin looks very good this year and should finish the season very successfully.

I had a chance to catch up with Kelsey & Japreece after the game to get this photo.

Great job Kelsey and continue to work hard.
