District 25 5A Matchup Bastrop VS Bowie

Posted by Coach Dean on February 11, 2010

Tonight’s matchup between Kevin Bussinger Bastrop Bears and the visiting bulldogs should be interesting. With Moore out of the line up the Bears loose a huge presence down in the post. 2011 P Amber Jackson should be effective for the Bears tonight as Bowie has not shown great defense in the post this season.

Bastrop Lady Bears

1st Half

The game got off to a slow start with both teams being cold from the field. Guard play will be a huge factor in this game tonight. Bowie Guard 2010 5’5 Gina King  has her hands full with 2011 G 5’7  Hillari Raemsch. Bastrop is doing an excellent job early on controlling the boards and being aggressive at the basket. 2011 PG Chelsea Moore has nice ball handling with a quick first step. The junior guard pushes the ball up the floor very well, and has the ability to attack the basket. 2011 G 5’7 Hillari Raemsch a nice smooth game. She continues to be a threat from deep and will take you off the bounce. I have watch the junior guard play several times and she continues to be impressive. Hillari has great ball handling , passing , and shooting skills with the ability to finish with both hands at the basket.2010 G Gina King orchestrates the offense very well for the Bull Dogs. She has nice ball handling, passing, and shooting skill with a nice mid range shot. Gina brings lots of experience and leadership to the Bowie group and I hope they will carry this into next season. With 2 minutes left in the first quarter Bastrop has an 8-5 lead. 2012 P Amber Jackson did a bang up job for Bastrop. Amber plays very aggressive around the basket and showed some nice footwork . The true junior has a nice long frame and shows good athleticism. With 1 minute left in the half Bastrop has increased its lead to five while Bowie has not taken care of the ball very well.

 Halftime

Bowie 24

Bastrop 29

2011 P Amber Jackson

 2010 G Gina King

2011 G Chelsea Moore

2nd Half

Bastrop opens the third with a 10-0 run and forcing Bowie to 2 quick turn overs.

Junior G Hillari continues to be impressive. Bowie has gotten out of sink and continues to turn the ball over.  2011 W Willnesha Roberson has been a beast on the boards for the Bears. She works very hard around the basket and has a nice long frame. The junior wing player has good footwork and plays very aggressive defense. I believe Willnesha had a double double scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Bastrop has really picked it up here in the third quarter by extended the lead to 14. Amber continues to be very impressive around the basket the junior had 12 points 8 rebounds on the night. Bastrop leads after three 50-36 with Hillari dropping 18 on the night.

Going into the fourth quarter Bastrop continued to dominate the game and got the win on senior Night.

2011 G 5’7 Hillari Raemsch

2011 W Willnesha Roberson

Final Score

Bastrop 71

Bowie 56

I had a chance to catch up with Kendra King a nice prospect in the class of 2013. Kendra plays JV for the Bowie Bull Dogs and will do great things next year on the Varsity squad.

2013 G 5’7 Kendra King

Texas Longhons VS Baylor Bears

Posted by Coach Dean on February 3, 2010

I had time on Sunday to take in the Texas Baylor game. Pictured below is Texas D-1 Ambassador Kianna Ray ball girl for the Horns.

2016 G 5’6 Kianna Ray

Texas D-1 Ambassadors

Kianna who is a 6th grader plays her ball with the 8th grade elite team. Kianna has really demonstrated her ability and toughness to compete on a higher level. She continues to show improvement in all areas and will be a nice prospect in the class of 2016.

I had a chance for a good shot of  Baylor Post Brittney Griner

2012 Guard Alex Rodriguez

Posted by Coach Dean on February 3, 2010

2012 G 5’3 Alex Rodriguez has great range on her shot. I have watched many kids shoot but she has to be one of the deadliest perimeter shooters in the area.

2012 G 5’3 Alex Rodriguez

Camp 2009

The true Sophomore attended the All American Prodigy Camp back in September and totally dominated the boys while competing in the Hot Shot Competition.  I had the privilege of  talking with a shooting coach who says she really can shoot and absorbs information like a sponge  Alex has great ball handling, passing, and shooting skills with the ability to take you off the bounce.  The future D-1 Ambassador will be a nice prospect in the class of 2012.

Alex  pictured with some of the top prospects in the state including 2011 G  Deon Mitchell.

Above, left to right: Emerging Prospects 2011 PG Yolonzo Moore of Austin Akins HS, 2014 G Aubrie King of Mumford, MS, (TX) , Top Shooter, 2012 G Alexandra Rodriguez of Georgetown HS (TX), Emerging Prospect 2012 G Brandon Thompson of Houston Worthing HS (TX), 2011 G and Camp MVP Deon Mitchell of Pflugerville HS (TX), and Emerging Prospect 2011 W Royce O’Neale of Harker Heights HS (TX)

Akins Fall To Pflugerville

Posted by Coach Dean on February 3, 2010

I am visiting tonight’s 5A match up between the home team Lady Panthers of Pflugerville and the Akins lady eagles.  The two key players in tonight’s match up will be 2011 P 6’1 Nneka Enemkpali and 2011 G 5’4 Vannessa Winston. Akins jumped out to an early 8-2 lead on the Panthers behind good shooting from junior guard Vanessa Winston.

Nneka who is just returning from an injury did not start for the Panthers but we should entered the game you could see a big shift in play.

2011 G 5’4 Vanessa Winston                                                                                                                                                                          2011 P 6’1 Nneka Enemkpali

Pflugerville who is very athletic with a lot of size did it all in the paint. The panthers dominated the eagles on the boards the entire night. Pflugerville with their size forced Akins to a perimeter game and they could not knock down shots. Junior guard Vanessa Winston

has a beautiful mid range shot. Pflugerville had no one that could contain her as she made a number of nifty moves while knocking down shot after shot. 2011 P Nneka Enemkpali is a beast around the basket. The junior displayed great footwork with a number of nice moves. Nneka who is a high D-1 Prospect continues to improve her game.

2012 G 5’7 Ari Booth

2012 G 5’7 Ari Booth did an excellent job for the Panthers. The true Sophomore has nice range on her shot with the ability to get to the basket.

2011 P 5’9 Danelle Lofton

2011 P 5’9 Danielle lofton continues to be impressive. Danielle leads the team in 3 categories. She averages just over 15 a game with 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Look for Danielle to be a nice prospect in the class of 2011.

Del Valle Storms Back to Defeat Hays

Posted by Coach Dean on February 3, 2010

With the District 17-4A title on the line the Cardinals came storming back — led by a smothering defense and Monique McElveen’s rebounding prowess — to claim a 35-26 win at Hays’ Bales Gym.

The Cardinals (29-2, 9-1 ) and Rebels (22-9, 10-1) will likely finish as co-district champions. Both teams’ coaches said they expect to flip a coin after the regular season to determine playoff seeding.

Del Valle trailed 8-2 after back-to-back three-pointers by Hays’ Angeleigh Davis and Ashley Rankine, but the Cardinals had a 24-20 lead at halftime .

Hays closed within 24-22 early in the third quarter, but Del Valle limited the Rebels to four points the rest of the game, creating numerous turnovers.

While Del Valle struggled to find a groove offensively for most of the night, McElveen, who finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds, helped the Cardinals increase their lead by scoring eight points in the paint in the second half.

2011 F 5’9 Monique Mc Elveen

“Monique just knows how to find the basketball,” Del Valle coach Tawni Angel said. “She did a great job tonight.”

Davis led Hays — which lost for the first time since mid-December — with nine points.
